Call for Abstracts

Themes

GECC 2026 cordially invites you to submit abstracts for single paper oral presentations, or symposia. All submissions should indicate the theme most closely related to the abstract topic when submitting. Themes for GECC 2026 are:

1. Education for Children and Young People

To examine how children and young people in diverse contexts experience opportunities and barriers in access to quality education, and how these shape their life chances and futures.

2. Higher Education and Lifelong Learning

To analyse the roles of higher education, lifelong learning, and technical and vocational education in addressing global education challenges, supporting just transitions into labour markets, and expanding meaningful learning opportunities across the lifespan.

3. Social Justice and Well-being in Education

To explore how dynamics such as race, class, gender, language, culture, disability, and migration intersect with educational processes that can impact social justice and the well-being of learners and educators.

4. Teaching, Assessment, and Educational Leadership

To investigate complex local and global challenges in teaching, assessment, evaluation, and educational leadership and to reimagine them to advance inclusive, equitable, and quality education.

5. Teacher Education

To examine how initial teacher education and continuing professional development can prepare and support educators for addressing global education challenges.

6. Digital Technology, Artificial Intelligence, and Educational Futures

To critically examine how digital technology and artificial intelligence are reshaping education and how they can (or cannot) contribute to achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs).

7. Comparative and International Perspectives on Global Education Challenges

To draw on comparative, cross-national, and cross-regional analyses, including local and indigenous knowledge, to understand global education challenges and their implications for equitable and sustainable futures.

Submission Type and Guidelines

Submission Type

 

Symposia:

  • A symposium is a 90-minute session consisting of four to five thematically linked papers. One or two discussant(s) can also be included. Should the submitted symposium not be accepted, participating authors may be offered the option to contribute single paper oral presentations.

Single Paper Oral presentation:

  • Single paper oral presentations allow the authors to give an oral presentation (approx. 15 minutes) about their research at the conference. The Scientific Committee will review and group submissions into different oral presentations thematically into separate sessions.

 

Submission Guidelines

Single Paper Presentation:

  • The presentation title should be concise and clearly reflect the content of the abstract.

  • The abstract should be no more than 350 words in English and should explore one or more of the conference themes.

  • The abstract should demonstrate how the study contributes to the existing body of scholarly research.

  • The abstract should NOT contain tables, figures, or appendices.

  • References are not required; however, if provided, they should be limited to no more than five. References do not count towards the word limit.

Symposia:

  • The symposium title and abstracts should clearly describe the central theme of the symposium.

  • Provide an overarching abstract for the symposium as a whole as well as titles and reduced abstracts for each paper within the symposium of not more than 1000 words in English.

  • The abstract should demonstrate how the symposium contributes to the existing body of scholarly research.

  • The abstract should NOT contain tables, figures, or appendices.

  • References are not required; however, if provided, they should be limited to no more than five. References do not count towards the word limit.

How to Submit

  1. Abstract Preparation: Follow the guidelines to prepare the abstract.

  2. Submit: Complete the submission process, including filling out the information and uploading the abstract on or before 30 June 2026 (Tuesday).

  3. Review Process: Our scientific panel will thoroughly review the abstract according to the following criteria:

    • It is relevant to at least one of the conference themes.

    • It reports a study that is original, rigorous, and significant.

  4. Notification: The author will be notified of the acceptance status by 1 September 2026 (Tuesday).

Submission Policy

  • Abstracts must be submitted via the online abstract submission system.

  • At least one author should register for the conference and present the paper. The presentation will be removed from the conference programme if the speakers fail to pay the registration fee before the deadline.

  • Individuals can submit at most TWO abstracts across all submission types (single paper oral presentation or symposium) in any role as a presenting or first author. There is no limitation in participation as a co-author across all submission types.

  • The author who submits the abstract will receive all communications and decisions regarding the abstract and is responsible for updating co-authors on its status. It is important to ensure that emails from gecc@eduhk.hk are not marked as spam to receive our updates. If the author wants to change the contact person for the abstract, please email the Conference Secretariat (gecc@eduhk.hk).

  • The content of the abstract, including the names of the authors and their affiliations, will be published exactly as submitted. The authors are responsible for ensuring the abstract's accuracy, including verifying spelling, grammar, and scientific findings.

  • To withdraw submitted abstracts, authors should contact the GECC 2026 Secretariat (gecc@eduhk.hk).

​Important Notes

  • Once an abstract has been submitted, it cannot be modified. However, if any error is discovered in the submitted abstract, the author may submit a written request to gecc@eduhk.hk to modify or withdraw it. 

  • By submitting the abstract, the author consents to its publication in all conference materials (e.g., programme booklet, conference website, etc.).

  • The author must affirm that they are the sole owner or have the necessary rights to all the information and content provided to GECC 2026 and that the publication of the abstract does not infringe upon any third-party rights, including intellectual property rights.

  • The author grants GECC 2026 a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, publish, translate, distribute, and display their abstract and presentation content.
